How can a pregnant woman protect herself from COVID-19?
World Health Organization Recommendations
Pregnant women do not need special precautions to avoid contracting COVID-19. You can help protect yourself by:
- wash your hands frequently with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water;
- keep your distance from others and avoid being in crowded places. If it is not possible to maintain a safe distance from others, a non-medical cloth mask should be worn. It is also recommended not to touch your eyes, nose and mouth with your hands.
- do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth;
- practice respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with the fold of your elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Dispose of the used tissue immediately.
If you have a fever, cough, or shortness of breath, seek immediate medical attention. Start by calling a health facility by telephone, follow the directions of your local health authority.
Pregnant women and postpartum women should attend all routine appointments and check-ups with a physician in accordance with local guidelines, while adhering to adapted virus prevention measures.
