Intimate life after childbirth
In the first 6-8 weeks after childbirth, your body recovers after pregnancy. The uterus and cervix are significantly reduced in size. After the birth of the placenta, a wound surface remains in the uterus, which heals within 4-6 weeks, which is accompanied by bloody discharge, gradually decreasing and changing color, by the 4th week the discharge often disappears and soon stops altogether. Sexual intercourse during this time can facilitate the penetration of infection through the slightly opened cervix, where blood and wound surface will contribute to rapid and progressive inflammation. Also, if tears or incisions of the perineum, vaginal walls, or cervix occur during childbirth, this wound surface may be the gateway for infection. Sutures also take time to heal. For women who have undergone a caesarean section, the recovery period lasts a little longer - 6-8 weeks. Therefore, it is recommended to resume intimate relationships after childbirth 2 months after childbirth, when the late postpartum period ends.
